Comments: RIP Franz Beckenbauer! ▫️ Shahin. The TM situation and excitement associated with it has dimmed significantly. You and I and Gorbi and Bardia witnessed it first hand last year during the World Cup. It could have been the most exciting tournament for us but off the field stuff put things in Perspective for many fans. We were there for football we were there to support the team and as you recall the divide did not affect us and we gave our full support to the team. It could have been a really good tournament for us if off the field stuff did not exist. ▫️ On top of all that, now with GN in charge, I feel like the team has no longer that shakhsiat and identity. I think we have lost it, at least internationally. ▫️ Yes, I will be following the games and as mentioned before if we pass through Korea in 1/4, I will make a quick trip for semi and hopefully the final. But in general no hard feelings if we get eliminated at 1/4 or not winning the cup. The excitement is no longer there. ▫️ This Team Melli will pretty much dismantle after the Asian cup as we have to work on the easy qualification rounds for WC 2026. 2/3 of this team may no longer be with the team in 2026 and we need a two year plan with a right coach to steer the ship. I hope it will not be Ghalenoei.
Comments: From Comedian Omid Djallili on Beckenbauer: Lucky to have spent time with him at a charity event 18 years ago where I had done a comedy set. He came over to say he that appreciated my “I’m the only Iranian comedian in the world, which is technically 3 more than Germany” joke. I wasn’t sure if he was being serious so asked if it was offensive to him and he said “not at all.” I asked why. He said “because I am NOT German. I am Bavarian.” I asked what’s the difference, he said “big difference. I have a soul.” When I laughed he suddenly went all mock mechanical and Teutonic “Ya, I am zo funny. You vant I write jokes for you?” and then proceeded to tell stories of Germans who thought they were funny but who were, in his opinion “less funny than Geoff Hurst goal that never crossed the line. Imagine!” To win everything in a football you have to be sharp. And funny, obviously. RIP a wonderful human being
