Comments: Shahin, as much as I disliked him but you're right about if Reagan was in power non of this would have taken place and the US would not have jumped on Molas bandwagon. I'd go a bit further back to Watergate. Had Nixon not been impeached this Anghelab would have not happened.

Comments: Cyruss: Iran will play Palestine, Hong Kong & then UAE. He can easily ease Hosseini into any pairing he likes
Comments: Shahin, unfortunately Sayadmanesh is not getting any playing time. Majid Hosseini has established himself very well and is popular there. He has higher futbol IQ than both khalilzade and kanamizadegan. He should start at TM. But his ideal pair, pooraliganji is injured. GN believes in pairings, that is why he is starting two lower caliber players that have played together for a while.
Comments: Watching Majid Hosseini and Ali Karimi now in Turkey, they are doing very well and have been playing 90 minutes for a top level team there. I feel like they should be starting at Asian Cup
Comments: The hope was really lost when Carter admin preferred fanatical Islamic system to supporting/backing someone like Jahanbani, Atabay or Khosrodad. I don't think these were corrupt military guys compared to Fardoost, Moghadam and the rest. This also may have something to do with Shah's bad judgements about these people as he always thought that people who do not rock the boat are better to be in charge but he was wrong at the end. I also think if Reagan was in charge instead of Carter this would have turned differently
Comments: Farzad:
Sabeti series was certainly worth watching. It showed that reform was not really going to work at least at that point in our history. The change of US policy in post Vietnam war, although perhaps a good thing high level but certainly did the shah in. As far as Sabeti personally, hich ki bedarde in kar nemikhord except himself as he tries to rewrite history. I think he was jaded as why he did not take over Savak. He was a mystery man to ordinary people but much disliked among everybody above and below him. He says that he kept going to hoveida, shah, etc. behind his superiors backs, which was more about him doing khar..K.. bazi than actually trying to do good if true. As far as Shah, at the end he was sick, no energy and depressed and did not want to deal with the situation. I am also surprised that more was not discussed about Shariati and his influence instead kept talking about confederation of Iranian students outside Iran. I know a lot about this group as they were nothing but bunch of rich, spoiled kids having a good time and living a care free life outside Iran like the 60s movement. They were no threat to anything.
Comments: Yes I remember buying a cassette of Shahrokh in Iran back in 1976-1977 after his Gharibeh song and dooset daram. Also his Lobat was our Qatar national anthem. May him rest in peace
Comments: Farzad, did I mistake morteza for shahrokh?
Comments: Sad to hear that Shahrokh , the singer, passed away this morning. He was only 74. Last I saw him singing , I was with Farzad, few months ago
Comments: Shahin. Ghesmat 5 of Sabeti documentary is his views on what and how things went wrong to lead to the fall of Pahlavi. Once Moghaddam took over SAVAK things forever changed. ▫️ And then with all the things Moghaddam relaxed leading to fall he gets executed by Khalkhali.

Comments: Watching the U17 final game. So impressed by these young kid's maturity in the way they play the game. They do just about everything right like the senior professionals do. Considering their age you'd think they play emotionally. That's the advantage of growing and learning the ABC's of the game early on from the childhood quite the opposite of how it's done in Iran. Also, if we were back in 70's and watching a game between these two countries, we would have seen 22 white kids kicking the ball around. Look at what migration has done to the lineup today. Majority of African descent. Wow, France just tied the game as I was writing.

Comments: There is one critique of this documanry who argued why not any details on Shariati. The so called driver of the revolution. The guy who kind of swayed many yongsters into secular muslim radicalization. This critique says that when the documanty covers so much on Golsorkhi and other Mojahedin, Todehee, and Chereek Fadaei, howcome there is not much on Shariati. There is a theory that Shariati was a Savak agent.
Comments: I mean at the end what he is saying is that in 1355 they basically eradicated the terrorist movement and the country was in total Amniat. Prosperity, and economy at its peak. 56 and 57 is when external pressure (including propaganda of the Confederation) were hyping up. His conclusion is I told the Shah the seriousness of what was coming but AalAhazrat took it lightly. Anyways, there are many ways to look at this documanary. Focusing on Sabeti himself, focusing on Manoto (Since they are going out of business), or just going through this documanry and then using own intelligence to connect the dots. Milani's Testemony was also interesting.
Comments: I do not know when he fleed Iran. Because all of other Savak leadership (Nasiri, Moghaddam, and Pakravan) were found and executed. He was the only secular (non military) at that type of position. Anyways my focus is not on him, it is on the things which were going on in the 40's and 50's of Iranian calendar.
Comments: Farzad: Going through the Sabeti videos just bare with me. Clear picture of the decision making apparatus of Shah's regime. Half a dozen people making it up as they go. I think this applies to a lot of places in the rest of the world. Almost all of it is real until he talks about himself & his role. He was a grunt and hared worker for the rest of the establishment. That's all he was
Comments: But yes, no question Kissinger was the man behind the scenes sort of the executor of ugly US foreign policies of Republicans in the 20th century
Comments: Cyruss
Did the bidding for anti communists and the oil cartels. With the fall of communism, people gave him benefit of the doubt. With oil cartels, as long as price of oil was down, again people did not care. Americans never seeing any fighting on their own turf ever are very complicit about genocide overseas.
Comments: Farzad: Most Iran old leftist never look at things objectively and never look within. We did the revolution and we are proud of it because of what America did to mosadegh and shah did shekanjeh are some of the reasons. They are the communist versions of the students that climbed the US embassy walls. They look at future as grievances of the past, it is the only way they can stay sane
Comments: Farzad: I think the most fascinating person to have couple of beers and discuss the left movement back in Iran is Abbas Milani. I will be interested too. I hope some day we can do that

Comments: Shahin, it is just fascinating to hear stuff happening back then. Not facinated by Sabeti:). From dealing with opposition, treason, and terrorist groups to all the conflicts within. Nasiri - Mighaddam - Sabeti trio relationship and all. In between what he says you can tell that there are also lots of things he is not saying. But it is still enough and entertaining. The other side is when we look at the opposition. I mean lefties, members of groups with Marxist or communist ideas existed in the European world then. And even had slots in European congress. But their job was not about getting armed and necessary do gorilla work. In Iran the role of all these groups were kharbkari. And they saw themselves as roshanfekr. These guys were in darkness and actually if diagnosed now had severe mental issues like depression and other complicated things. Golesorkhi talking about Salman Farsi, Emam Hossein, Hazrat Ali, and then through these fiction individual reaching to Marxism. You rerun what he said then now, and you are just awed. These were Roshanfekrs? Like Bijan Jazani's books: نبرد با دیکتاتوری شاه - به مثابه عمده ترین دشمن خلق و ژاندارم امپریالیسم چگونه نبرد مسلحانه توده ای میشود دیکتاتوری بورژوازی کمپرادور You glance at these books now and then the first thing comes to mind is the word "Roshanfekr" again. Like WTF. These guys were just simply lost, delusional and I have no doubt brainwashed and instigated. The Sharif vaghefi story is also amazing. With Mojahedin having Islamic ideologies and with some members having Marxist ideaology, the Marxist guy kills and burns the body of Sharif Vaghefi... and the Marxist guy who did that was a roshanfekr fighting for freedom and " Azadi BayAn"?? Dude you just killed and burned a guy because of his ideology.
Comments: I agree Cyruss. He was one of the most destructive politicians in our lifetime. That's exactly how my only favorite American politician described Killinger.
Comments: I’m surprised that I don’t see much discussion on Kissinger, who passed away yesterday in the news outlets. One of the biggest war criminals of 20th century that went unpunished for his crimes against humanity. If you think Ghasem Kotlet was bad , for all atrocities he committed, multiply that by hundreds or thousands fold for killinger. |
