Comments: The alternative to sanctions is military action. According to UN resolutions chapter 7, you impose sanctions (article 41) against rogue countries. If no results you take other measures. We can also claim that we have the smartest young people in the world and we should be a hub for technology like India & China again thats great. But sanctions are not the reason that we do not have these things. I just quickly put together a list of things required for us to participate in global economy and believe me it is not scientific but common sense. Without this, any investment in Iran is waste of money. I am sure many can add more requirements. 1. Stop taking hostages so countries that can invest trust sending people to Iran. This is #1 requirement 2. Make life comfortable for foreign nationals & their families to live in Iran. Let them buy alcohol, go to to the beach without Hejab, let them have their own schools, etc. This all been tested in Saudi Arabia, UAE & Qatar 3. Work with the world banking system to establish a credit system so that companies can use credit letters and individuals can use credit cards. This requires some concession to US for removal of some of the financial sanctions 4. Make it attractive for people who had left Iran especially the experts to come back. This requires some concessions on ideological values 5. Anybody who has a dark spot for mohr on his forehead should not be in the government or in front line. It is very tacky 6. Promote arts and culture (not Islamic) with women out in front. This makes us look serious about joining the real world
Comments: My point is clear! after nuclear agreement, there were some European companies that were willing to invest in Iran. I don’t know if they would stick around or get tired of the system. I don’t know and I can’t predict what would have happened. we know what happened but can’t be sure what would have happened given enough time.

Comments: That was Barjam and many countries chose not to invest. Because the risk is always higher than the rewards in current iran. For any investment you have to consider ROI plus Risk / reward ratio. Forget other countries. No one in iran can even invest on a football team. In a mafia driven and a kaj o koleh country when the system is corrupt and backward and it is the land of the outlaws it is tough to get convinced to invest. It takes years???!!! Who in a right mind would invest.
