Comments: "Zinsky wants to bring that down to $50B a year for $400B"😀😀 Based on what? Hamintori? Ok we take that as credible. Keep in mind that I think around 2009-2013 oil reached around $100 a barrel. The oil income before the revolution from 1901 until 1978 was like 130B. Oil was cheap. And that is why the claim that when it got to AN's era which was 100 years later, the income he made in that era was more than the 100 yrs combined.
Comments: Most of the oil embargo sanctions occurred in Obama era around 2011/2012.
Comments: Farzad: The data showed between $550B-$600B of Oil export during AN. I thought it was close enough to what you quoted the Iranian official showing AN wasting that income. But Zinsky wants to bring that down to $50B a year for $400B . Cool.
Comments: The reason we did not see severe sanctions on AN was because Iraq was shut down and Iran needed to supply. This happened when Russia invaded Ukraine. That is when Biden looked the other way and let Iran sell the oil in black market even at 40% discount. Anyways yeah AN's oil income was the highest ever.
Comments: Rouhani era the income was $365B
Comments: Shahin what did your calculations and projection show?
Comments: This is what I heard from friends and family about AN during his time in office. He started a program to lend individuals (mainly regime supporters) money to start a business and hire people. In theory it sounded good but the problem started when 95% of these startups were fake. They used the money to buy land and supposedly build factories or other businesses. Very quickly afterwards, they sold the land for profit, took the money and left Iran. That was the start of the massive migration to Canada and Australia. All these people who basically stole from the country ended up very rich and bought 1/3 of Toronto.
Comments: $50 billion/year maybe!!! My point is simple. When talking about a regime like IRI, it’s important to be accurate. When you say 800 and it ended up being almost half, you lose credibility. You give them and supporters an excuse to say, you are full of it. Not to compare but that is the way Trump operates. He discredits his opponents by finding small mistakes and use that to his defense. He doesn’t talk about his mistakes, only what they might have missed about his crimes. That is what lawyers do very well. Create doubt and discredit the other side.
Comments: 2nd term of Bush II and 1st term of Obama!
Comments: Another thing I didn’t know. There was no sanctions on IRI during AN? Do you know why? We’re there acting normal as a regime during AN?
Comments: Your math is correct. I got about the same thing. From this calculations I actually thought Farzad was close enough for the purpose of his argument. The way you objected I thought it was 50 billion
Comments: 2.4B barrel/day! I’m assuming you mean million not billion. 2.4 million X 80/barrel is $192 million/day. I don’t know if we should consider the revenue as “sell price - cost” or not but let’s move on with sales. 192X360 is about $70 billion/year. 8 years in office makes it $553 billion overall. Now let’s do revenue. Iran has some of the least expensive cost to extract oil. It’s about $10/barrel. With that in mind the revenue will be $485 billion for 8 years. Please check my math. I’m getting old and basic math is not as easy! It’s a lot of money. I’m sure most of it was stolen and shipped to other countries and used to feed the proxies. Still, it’s about half of $800 billion. It’s always good to do the math before making a case.
Comments: Actually I checked the average oil price for those years was $80/barrel
Comments:
Comments: Zinsky: You had a link below for crude oil export and i just went and filtered for 2005-2013 (Ahmadinejad's time). Looks like average of 2.4B barrel/day. If you want you can do the math from here and lets assume $100/barrel (is it fair?) or even less and see how much was the income
