For the first time in the tournament's history, the winners of the World Cup will be awarded Championship rings - marking a distinctly American addition to the world's most prestigious soccer competition.

Defending champions Argentina will aim to claim back-to-back titles on Sunday as they face 2024 European champions Spain at MetLife Stadium, with President Donald Trump set to play a special role in the closing ceremony. Argentina advanced to the final after mounting a stunning comeback against England in Atlanta, with Lionel Messi coming up with two assists in the final 14 minutes.

"In addition to the iconic trophy and prestigious gold medals, a new symbol of triumph will be awarded to the winning team," FIFA said. "In a momentous first for a FIFA competition, the tournament winners will also receive bespoke championship rings, bringing one of the most recognizable American sporting traditions to the global game.

Compounding these issues, Iran's squad initially faced stringent restrictions, being permitted to enter the U.S. only a single day before their scheduled matches. This prompted coach Amir Ghalenoei to publicly declare his team the "most oppressed team" at the World Cup.

Giuliani, however, staunchly defended the travel arrangements, emphasizing what he described as logistical parity. "In Los Angeles, they were able to come a day early for the match. For comparison's sake, the U.S. they were in Orange County. They took a bus ride, a longer bus ride than the flight was for the Iranians," he explained, drawing a direct comparison.
