Ok so to simplify the proposal on birthright law

 

1) if an _illegal immigrant lady_ gets pregnant by a _male who is neither a U.S. Citizen and nor a US Green card holder_, the baby does not automatically become a US citizen.

 

2) if a _lady on any kind of visa_ such as student, tourist, or H1B visa or visa wavier gets pregnant by a _male who is __neither a U.S. Citizen and nor a US Green card holder_, the baby does not automatically become a US citizen.

 

Ok now, what do I think? I have to look at it from different angles. Humanitarian standpoint, logical standpoint, and abusive standpoint.

 

Putting the humanitarian and logical views aside, one thing you don't want to happen is for pregnancy to become the tool to reach citizenship by illegal immigrants like fake marriage. And this is the whole point of this proposed change. The question really is how abusive the conduct is.  I don't know. I am aware of fake marriages. It is costly and it is illegal.
