Dictatorships are never consistent in how they treat their political prisoners. Why did Savak and Sabeti kept Rajavi alive, but lesser known Mujaheds or any opposition with less crimes were tortured and killed? Savak kept many Islamist terrorist alive that even after repenting became operators of Islamic Republic. Why was Mandela kept alive by the apartheid regime and had privileges of outside communication? Had any of these captors any investments in the captive? My only guess is that prevailing circumstances of the given moment decides how each prisoner is treated. Lots of calculations involved, and usually all in the direction of “ the best interest or least damaging public relations for the captors.
Comments: Farzad: The issue is that RP says all the right things himself but in the background, enables his supporters (mainly on social media) to go after other potential opposition leaders and basically got rid of the coalition. There are examples of this with Etemady, Khonsari and even his wife. He also has not been able to unite both republicans & democrats in congress (just like Ukraine, Zelinsky. did this initially) to support him and the movement, this you expect from a leader. He has been pigeon holed into just paling around with Republican neocons & Bibi's contingent in Israel. The state of opposition to mullahs outside Iran is in real bad shape. That is why people are interested in Mohammadi & Sotoudeh

Comments: Cyrus, that person on the video is from Iran and lives in Iran. Again as i said I am not in tune with what is going on with monarchists and RP. I do remember though that RP congratulating N. Mohammadai calling her a freedom fighter.
Again, my question is this, how can people like her can have phone converstation with Angelina Joli from Evin but others are getting executed for a crime at a lesser degree? Again Dr. Djalali has not been able to have contacts with the family. Ali Karimi got death sentence. Again, the stuff you say about these fanatic monarchists I agree. But what does that have to do with Nargess and Nasrin and how they can get away with having a phone converstaion with Angelina Joli in Evin. Still mind buggling for me, and I cannot go past that if the rationale is not explained to me. I’m not commenting on the phone call of Angelina, mainly because I don’t know the facts. But I do know that IRI amniati system plays games like that. Could be many reasons, including enticing “ suspicion “ amongst opposition. That was my general opposition. Monarchists became greedy too soon. I don’t know against RP will or with his consent. But their actions trying to have the sole ownership of opposition in contradictory to what RP had repeatedly mentioned in his speeches previously regarding democratic principles. What exactly is there to be gained by constantly trying to discredit and alienate likes of hamed esmalion, Narges Mohammadi, etc…… Don’t they represent a group, even if small, and trend of thought within society?

Comments: Cyrus, I do not understand Mohammadi and RP connection. Yes I do know that opposition cannot get united. Even in 57 we wittnessed it. Did not understand the monarchist relation here as I do not follw them except watching youtube of an interview or something. . All I am questioning is that Ali Karimi's death sentence is out there or that wrestler Farid Afkari, whom zamin o zaman asked for him not to get executed, when I see hundreds of youngsters still being executed since Zan Zendegi Azadi movement, and then here a ringleader of the movement can have a phone conversation with Angelina Joli, I have to question it. Something does not look right. And if no one else questions how a prisoner whose sentence is potentially death sentence can get away with a phone call from Evin with Angela Joli, If ordinary people like you and I do not wonder or do not question it, then we have to question our inteligence. Sharmahd, Dr Djalali of Sweden cannot even have contacts with family members. Angelina Joli??!! The video I posted below is a guy from streets of Tehran.
