Trump been saying it about this tragedy for more than 2 years and now NYT reveals. All liberal media focused on Gaza. Casualties in Ukraine War Near 1.4 Million, Study FindsNearly one million Russian troops have been killed or wounded in the country's war against Ukraine. Close to 400,000 Ukrainian troops have also died or been wounded since the war began. Since January 2024, Russia has seized less than 1 percent of Ukrainian territory. Overall, Russia occupies about 20 percent of Ukraine. Dive Deeper:A recent study reveals that nearly one million Russian troops have been killed or wounded in the ongoing war against Ukraine, highlighting the severe toll of this conflict. -
The report, released by the Center for Strategic and International Studies, indicates that around 400,000 Ukrainian soldiers have also suffered casualties since the war began, bringing the total combined figure to nearly 1.4 million. -
Estimating accurate casualty numbers is challenging, as Russian officials are believed to underreport their losses, while Ukraine does not release official figures. The study used estimates from American and British intelligence. -
The findings illustrate Russia's sluggish progress in Ukraine, with the military advancing at a meager pace of about 165 feet per day, which is even slower than the infamous Somme campaign during World War I. -
Since January 2024, Russia has captured less than 1% of Ukrainian territory, and currently occupies around 20% of the country, underscoring the limited gains despite significant losses. -
Seth G. Jones, one of the study's authors, stated that Russia's military efforts in Ukraine are shaping up to be among the slowest offensive operations in modern history, with immense casualties and minimal territorial acquisition. -
The study estimates that nearly 250,000 Russian troops have died since the invasion began in February 2022, marking this conflict as having a higher fatality rate than any Soviet or Russian war since World War II. https://www.nytimes.com/2025/06/03/us/politics/russia-ukraine-troop-casualties.html

IFAB updates laws on penalty kicks after Alvarez’s UCL incident: Rule-change explainedThe update published by FIFA-backed rules panel IFAB means the kind of penalty Átletico forward Álvarez had disallowed after scoring in a shootout against Real Madrid in March should now be retaken. The laws of football on taking a penalty kick were clarified on Tuesday after Julián Álvarez’s accidental double touch helped to eliminate Atletico Madrid from the Champions League.
What is the update? The update published by FIFA-backed rules panel IFAB means the kind of penalty Átletico forward Álvarez had disallowed after scoring in a shootout against Real Madrid in March should now be retaken.

The incident was widely judged to have been unfair as Álvarez did not deliberately slip and take the double touch to gain an advantage. What did IFAB say? “This situation is rare, and as it is not directly covered in Law 14, referees have understandably tended to penalize the kicker,” IFAB said in a statement. “However, this part of Law 14 is primarily intended for situations where the penalty taker deliberately touches the ball a second time before it has touched another player.” IFAB clarified in a circular letter to football stakeholders that a penalty kick, which is scored now after an accidental double touch, should be retaken. A double-touch penalty that is not scored will not be retaken. In a shootout, such a penalty “is recorded as missed,” IFAB said, and during regulation time or extra time, a free kick can be awarded to the defending team. The clarified rule will apply at the Club World Cup, which starts on June 14 in the United States. The 32-team lineup includes Atletico. IFAB is comprised of FIFA plus the four British football federations. Rules can be changed with six of the eight votes, which are distributed by four to FIFA and one each to the British.

Iranian athletes, coach arrested for gang rape of Korean woman during Asian Athletics Championships The 20-year-old Korean woman called the police after hiding in the bathroom of the hotel where the Iranian athletes were staying
Updated:June 03, 2025 09:48 IST Two Iranian athletes and a coach have been arrested for gang rape of a 20-year-woman during the 2025 Asian Athletics Championship in South Korea, according to reports. The incident allegedly happened in the Korean city of Gumi at the hotel where the Iranian delegation stayed. While Iran's Athletics Federation maintained that three members of the national team committed inappropriate behaviour, Iranian newspaper Khabar Varzeshi published a detailed account of the alleged, which suggests that the woman called the police after hiding in the bathroom. According to the report by Khabar Varzeshi, a leading sports publication in Iran, the woman met the Iranian athlete, identified as K, at a bar. She arrived at the hotel with him. Later, a second athlete joined them in the room. Soon, another person, identified as M, joined the duo, which the woman objected to. The woman hid inside the bathroom and secretly called the police. The officers filed a group sexual assault based on the complaint against the three. However, the accused claimed that the first two encounters were consensual and only the third was forced. Police, however, reportedly dismissed this and detained all three men. South Korean newspaper Hankyoreh too confirmed the report, stating that two 30-year-old Iranian athletes and a coach had been arrested on charges of rape. The hotel where the Iranian athletes were staying is under tight security though the accused have been transferred to prison. The police have taken control of the hotel to prevent angry people from possibly harming the athlete, according to Iran's Athletics Federation. The Federation said it would take disciplinary action against the accused, adding that the matter is under review and disciplinary action will be taken in accordance with regulations. The Iranian Ministry of Sports said Minister Ahmad Donyamali had ordered the deputy minister for professional and championship sports to seriously pursue the issue and present a detailed report on the various aspects of this incident.
