Iran wants to give Ronaldo a special SIM card to access unblocked internet

Some Iranians say it would be an insult and discrimination to offer Ronaldo services that citizens can’t access.

Some people “who want to tarnish our reputation” tell footballers not to come to Iran because they won’t have access to unfiltered internet.

“I have spoken with the CEO of [major mobile carrier] Irancell, and I told him we want to give players and personnel Irancell SIM cards with unrestricted internet so they can use it from the time they enter Iran till the time they leave,” he said.

The internet in Iran is heavily restricted, and tens of thousands of websites and all major global messaging and social media platforms are blocked.

“If Ronaldo comes to Iran, he should naturally install the Bale and Eitaa platforms,” he said, in reference to two major government-supported platforms.

“He can contact his wife and children and neighbourhood friends and everyone else, and tell them all to install them as well, and he should feel lucky to be able to do that too!” he told reporters with a smile after a cabinet meeting.

“I don’t want Ronaldo or any other star to come to Iran for one minute if it means that they will receive more services than an Iranian citizen,” tweeted journalist Ehsan Bodaghi. “This is a belittling of every single Iranian. I wish you would understand that Ronaldo doesn’t deserve more rights and services than Iranians in their own country.”

Journalist Sahar Tolouee pointed out how women have faced the same type of discrimination for years when it comes to football, but through being shut out of stadiums.

“When you gentlemen went to stadiums with tickets in your hands and said ‘are stadiums any place for a woman?’ us women felt the same humiliation of Ronaldo and his team getting internet without filters, and to be honest we still feel the same,” she wrote on the platform X, formerly known as Twitter.

LOS ANGELES, Sept 12 (Reuters) - The Los Angeles City Council on Tuesday voted to name a street intersection in memory of Mahsa Amini, whose death in the custody of the morality police in Iran nearly a year ago sparked months of nationwide protests there.

Los Angeles, the second most populous U.S. city, is home to an Iranian community of nearly 138,000 people, of the 400,000-620,000 people of Iranian ancestry in the United States, according to the University of California, Los Angeles.

The intersection of Westwood Boulevard and Rochester Avenue- in an area home to Persian businesses- will be renamed Women Life Freedom Square in Amini's memory, according to a record of the City Council vote on its website.

The months-long anti-government protests that followed Amini's death spiraled into the biggest show of opposition to Iran's authorities in years.

روزنامه «خبرورزشی» در گزارشی مدعی شده که فدراسیون فوتبال در رایزنی با برخی نهادهای حکومتی، مسیر حرکت اتوبوس تیم فوتبال النصر عربستان که کریستیانو رونالدو هم سرنشین آن خواهد بود را مشخص کرده‌اند. در این گزارش تاکید شده که «یک گارد امنیتی» حرکت بدون توقف اتوبوس النصر از فرودگاه خمینی به سوی هتل محل اقامت را تضمین خواهد کرد. 

همچنین «رضا درویش» مدیرعامل باشگاه پرسپولیس تایید کرده که به محض ورود کاروان النصر، سیم‌کارت‌های بدون محدودیت و بدون فیلتر، در اختیار بازیکنان، مربیان و همراهان این باشگاه قرار خواهد گرفت تا بدون نگرانی با خارج از ایران در تماس باشند. 

رسانه «ورزش مدیا» در ایران، رفتار مسئولین در ایران در قبال حضور ستاره پرتغالی را به فیلم «میهمان مامان» تشبیه کرده و نوشته است: «طی این سال‌ها در ایران چه ساخته‌اید که این قدر نگران هستید؟» 

مدیران نظام و ورزش ایران در حالی برای حضور رونالدو در فوتبال ایران رفتاری ذوق‌زده و دستپاچه دارند که کمتر از یک سال قبل، در همسایگی ایران، قطر میزبان رقابت‌های جام جهانی فوتبال با حضور ۳۲ تیم و تمامی ستاره‌های فوتبال جهان بود. 

همچنین ترکیه در دیگر سوی ایران نیز پس از سال ۲۰۰۴ برای دومین بار در سال جاری میزبان فینال لیگ قهرمانان اروپا و ستاره‌های فوتبال جهان شد. 

دوشنبه ۲۰ شهریور ۱۴۰۲ «مهدی تاج» رئیس فدراسیون فوتبال جمهوری اسلامی، ورود رونالدو به ایران را «دستاورد بزرگ خود» دانسته بود. این در حالی است که رونالدو با قراردادی به ارزش بیش از ۲۰۰ میلیون دلار سال گذشته به فوتبال عربستان پیوست. باشگاه‌های عربستان در ماه‌های اخیر ستاره‌هایی مانند «نیمار»، «کانته» و «مانه» را از باشگاه‌های معتبر اروپایی به خدمت گرفتند. 

پرسپولیس باید ۲۸ شهریور در ورزشگاه بدون تماشاگر آزادی مقابل النصر عربستان در لیگ قهرمانان آسیا قرار بگیرد.
