Funny enough, some 20 years ago when I was watching Lion King with my kids, I said the same thing about Iran before and after.

Kaveh Moussavi was instrumental in the arrest of Hamid Nouri, prosecuted and condemned to prison in life in Sweden. Crime: crimes against humanity.

Any kids? I am sure grown by now.  Remember the Animation movie “The Lion King”?  When Scar takes over?

That is what Islamic Republic reminds me of.

Yes KAmkAr, one Iranian scientist publicly mentioned that people of Tabriz are in great threats of health condition and may prompt migration due to salt storm.

While many governments address the environmental crises, Iran’s ruling theocracy accelerates them.  Now Iran’s Lake Urmia, the world’s second-largest salt lake, is steps away from drying up.

Lake Urmia, one of the most hypersaline lakes and long counted among the world’s largest saltwater lakes, is now a triste shadow of its former self. It is now dubbed as “Urmia Desert.”

Videos from Iran show salt storms resulting from the drying of Lake Urmia. Coupled with Iran’s high pollution rate, this means more Iranians, particularly in northwest Iran, will suffer.

With almost 90 miles in length and stretching 34 miles at its widest point, Lake Urmia and its watershed are critical in the lives of millions of people and 226 species of birds and other animals.

The regime could have saved this national treasure by transferring water to it or at least stopped digging wells, but it didn’t. The government of Hassan Rouhani made a fanfare about taking care of Lake Urmia, but it did nothing.

The sad fate of Lake Urmia is part of a bigger tragedy in Iran under the mullahs’ regime: A wealthy country that has been drained of its resources by the ruling theocracy that prioritizes preserving its ominous rule above people’s well-being.

Therefore, Iranians wrote on the dried basin of Lake Urmia: “We will avenge you! Even if it costs us our lives.”

What remain are piers that lead nowhere, the rusting carcasses of ships half-buried in the silt, and white, barren landscapes of exposed salt flats. Winds that whip across the lake bed blow salt dust to farm fields, slowly rendering the soil infertile. Noxious, salt-tinged dust storms inflame the eyes, skin, and lungs of people as far away as Tabriz, a city of more than 1.5 million about 60 miles away. And in recent years Urmia’s alluring turquoise waters were stained blood-red from algae and bacteria that flourish in these waters, which are eight times as salty as the ocean, and then turn color when sunlight penetrates the shallows.

Engineers and water experts point out that the lake in this semiarid region is suffering from thousands of illegal wells and a proliferation of dams and irrigation projects that are diverting water from tributary rivers to grow apples, wheat, and sunflowers. The experts have called on Iran’s government to change course before Urmia “falls victim to the Aral Sea syndrome,” the overexploitation of water that doomed its sister inland sea in Central Asia.

The voice of science seems to have reached Tehran. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has pledged to spend five billion dollars to revive Urmia by releasing more water from dams, improving the efficiency of irrigation systems, and switching to less thirsty crops. Yet some promised funding appears to have dried up too, thwarting progress and bringing petitions to Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, to renew efforts or to seek international assistance. The United Nations Development Programme is working with farmers on more sustainable practices to save water. Although U.S.-Iran relations have been strained for decades, the countries have permitted scientific exchanges to brainstorm on how to replenish the diminishing waters of Lake Urmia and Utah’s Great Salt Lake—which are close in size and configuration.

Farzad, that satellite photo of Iran can not be accurate. It must have been photoshopped. The Reza'eih Lake is almost all dried up.

A three-year contract worth €3m net per year is ready for Mehdi Taremi  to pair up with Olivier Giroud at AC Milan, which is a pay rise compared to what he gets at Porto (€1.8m). However, there is still no agreement with the Portuguese club who are asking for €25m.

The Milan management are willing to offer €20m maximum, while Jorge Mendes – who is the striker’s agent and also an intermediary in the operation – is working to try find a meeting point.

Milan have tabled a offer to sign Mehdi Taremi from Porto. It was turned down, but the Iranian has emerged as the frontrunner to lead their frontline.

Porta Marksman Sits Atop of Milan Offensive Wish List

Milan have tabled an offer to sign Mehdi Taremi from Porto. It was turned down, but the Iranian has emerged as the frontrunner to lead their frontline along with Olivier Giroud. He scored 31 goals in 51 appearances in the past season.

According to SportMediaset, the Rossoneri tendered €13M, while the Portuguese demanded €20/25M to part ways with the prolific striker. However, his contract is up in 2024, and he’s highly unlikely to extend it.

If Milan managed to come to terms for Taremi, it would preclude them from signing another extra-EU player like Samuel Chukwueze and Daichi Kamada. The veteran has an agreement in principle with the Italian side and would earn €3M for the next three years. Agent Jorge Mendes is tending to the negotiation.

Per TuttoSport, the Rossoneri might ultimately seal the deal if they raised their bid to €20M. They have zeroed in on him especially for his skillset. He combines well with his teammates on top of scoring in spades.

Our Take on Milan and Taremi

The talks have gained traction, and all will come down to the fee, as they will be reluctant to overspend. The only reservation is tied to his age, as there are no doubts about his quality and the fit.

Let's not forget that there are an enormous amount of corruption in those countries and most of that aid money sends up in the pockets of the dictators that the US supports.
