Here is what happened: To understand the current US-NATO war against Russia over Ukraine, it is critical to review the background and implications of the 2014 far-right coup in Kiev, which overthrew the pro-Russian President Viktor Yanukovych. The coup was openly supported by US and Europeans. The coup was the temporary culmination of long-standing efforts by US neocons to install a puppet regime on the borders of Russia and brought the world a major step closer to a war between the largest nuclear powers, the US and Russia. The regime change prompted the outbreak of an ongoing civil war in the east of Ukraine, between Russian-backed separatists and the US-backed Ukrainian army, that has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands and displaced millions.

Comments: Farzad: As an independent country with great natural resources, Ukraine wants to join NATO just like those other countries you mentioned. It is the right of their people to enjoy a free prosperous economy and peace. We did not push them (although are happy), it was natural and inevitable. After the fall of Soviet Union and cold war and creation of all those countries it created new situations and order. Again Putin invaded them in 2013 tool land away, invaded them again in 2020 and will do again if Trump negotiate something. This on a long run will not be good for US and free world
Comments: Turkey and Norway were the only NATO nations bordered with Soviet. With Norway the only nation bordered with Russia.
Comments: Russia did not invade other adjacent countries which became NATO. They did have issues with Georgia (Birthplace of Stalin) and Ukraine.
Comments: Shahin, Sometimes I wonder about your questions whether it is serious due to its simplicity. After the German unification United states / Europe / NATO / and Soviet had an agreement not to move NATO east. Even though that was the deal, The eastern bloc countries like Poland and Romania joined NATO regardless, specially since the Soviet was falling. Even after the fall of Soviet, some of the former soviet republics like Latvia, Estonia and Luthania joined NATO. They are bordered with Russia. Russia was not happy... And West pushed more ... Russia got to a point and agreed ok, all these vountries are ok but not Ukraine. Why not Ukraine? Becaus in Russian history both in WWI and WWII Russia was attacked through the flat land and flat border of Ukraine. That is a security issue for Russia.
Comments: So Russia cannot have a border with any NATO countries. That is a red line for beginning an invasion
Comments: I still do not understand the push for the war. Not even once prior to this a ceasfire was even put as an option. I really really do not understand the continuation of the war with over a million death. After 3 years you lost 20% of your land plus a million death. What does justify continuing it?

Comments: Totally agree with Farzad on that. This was an American initiated war. They got Putin cornered. He had nowhere to go.
Comments: He had no choice... Had he not .. his security was in trouble. Just imagine China or Iran or Russia sends troops to Mexico next to our border to protect them. Would our president just sit back and says it is ok, because otherwise he will be called a mad man?
Comments: I'm just at awe with all the screw up presidents that we've had like the last three, how come we're still the country that all others want to come to and enjoy the relatively good life. I guess the answer is in having a huge economy that's hard to pull down. Just like when we think rich people have happy lives, it's because they solve most of their problems with money. Another example would be our country of birth. Isn't that mind bugling how it's not even worse than north Korea with all the wasteful policies! Again the reason is money. With oil and other resources they've been able to keep going.
Comments: You dig into the depth of what is happening and almost everyone (except those with evil interests) unanimously agree that this was a total instigation against Russia by West. With Russia being 11th in world economy, it seemed it was feasible to weaken them militarily. The whole idea was for Russia to run out of weapons and ammunition... Anyways.. there should be a ceasefire, there should be an election in Ukraine, as last year's election was put on hold by Zelenskyy due to war. Nothing should put that election on hold after the ceasfire.
Comments: So he got pissed off and decided to start a war killing more than a million from both sides. Now that is a mad man if you ask me |
