Thank goodness I left for a long walk and a short nap 😴 and you guys talked amongst yourself and resolved all the issues.
This is again another great example of an online discussion. I said a while back I like to retire in Portugal and somehow I became the bad guy who hates America. Later it was discovered that might not be true and I just have a flawed argument. Different people made assumptions on why I might post here and there. Finally, it was determined that I’m living the American dream by wanting to live in Portugal.
It would have been much easier to just say, “I would like to retire in Portugal” and the next post would have said, “good for you”!

I am actually very realistic without much prejudice as where I am in life. No way I am as smart as Zinsky, Kamkar, the guys that are teaching in University subjects that I will never understand but I am pretty much on par with Farzad [smile]. To the point that I got here somehow tokhmi tokkhmi. That has allowed me to look at things more objectively. American dream is exactly what Zinsky is doing. Part of American dream is to retire in an exotic and foreign place where you can mange your finances and experience a different lifestyle. This is a version of the American dream. We have other versions like I want a big house like my grand kids can come visit and I will BBQ for them.

To me Zinsky is living the American dream and on his way to Portugal, wants to also kick America in the stomach [smile]

I went to the game with a colleague.  He was saying that you can rent a room in a cruise ship which goes around the world and takes about 3 years.  The cost is $76,000 for 3 years. It includes all your meals and healthcare.


It docks in many cities around the world. sometime for a long period of time.  For example he was saying that it docks in Sicily like for 2 weeks. You can get out and hop on anytime.  You can even take a flight on your own and come to uS and then go back.   

I think this is very interesting. Especially if you are alone single and retired, or even as a couple. 


HAMVATAN, I know you are very adventurous. this may interest you.  Wait, no, you like to drive around.  Btw, in these boats you can also take your car with you.

Hate to be talking about the other page except saying that I make daily visits. There are lots of pro IRI comments from two of the members which is fine. Everyone is entitled to their opinions. But I do keep seeing almost daily comments from one member who's just plain #@$&*£. The admin keeps telling him to stop but it seems like he can't help it. Some people are born to be haters.

But honestly.  We all see what Zinsky is saying.  Things have changed.  Everywhere in the world.  Again I go to Sweden Twice a year.  For more than 30 years.  Things have changed there drastically as well.


But as KAmkAr said and I agree, this country is still the Final Frontier. Even my desire to get a place in Portugal does not mean I am changing my base.  I am just expanding my options.

Question 2, if Portuguese are this dissatisfied, where should they go.

  • 88% is little or not satisfied about the availability of housing
  • 79% about life in general
  • 78% about policies to combat crime
  • 76% is little of not satisfied with social mobility (even when a person is working hard…)
  • 74% with the country’s State health system (in the Algarve/ Alentejo that percentage rises to 90%)
  • 68% with the quality of education
  • 67% with the position of ethnic minorities in society
  • 67% is also little or not satisfied with the number of immigrants in Portugal
  • 61% with the way in which the environment and Nature are protected
  • 55% with the position of women in society
  • 50% with the investment in science and technology in Portugal
  • 50% also is little or not satisfied with the role Portugal plays in the world
