Comments: I was meaning the clip from Mehrzad.
Comments: Farzad, I viewed the clip. It was mostly his bio. The rest was common knowledge for those who have kept up with Iran's history. Nevertheless, it was interesting.
Comments: Zinsky on Israel, I just think they are great partners for US and getting billions a year that at the end seems a waste of money. I think having Israel has proven to be a positive thing for the balance of power in middle east for American interests. Israel has progressed a lot in technology, security, etc. that now US can take advantage and benefit from it. Support of arms and other warfare puts same money they spent back in US economy. The last thing I have been reading is that where US because of politics cannot help some conflict around the world, Israel is willing to do Us's bidding. Israel has been selling arms and technologies for example in Indonesia, even to Iran in the past. They may be indirectly negotiating with Russia on behalf of US for Ukraine. The last thing is that not supporting Israel will require a whole new political platform to be implemented by both parties and there is not much upside to it.
Comments: Zinsky: Those major and depressing & emotionally charged problems you mentioned has little to do with America First. That is why I say that is an excuse for a populist to run a campaign on
Comments: Shahin. I don’t want to talk Trump. That was a blimp and I don’t think an outsider will ever have a chance again. But he did lots of things. Many of them the new admin did not reverse because they were good and needed. It is just some of us refuse to know about them. The Criminal Justice reform was one of the big ones. Being self sufficient on the energy was the other. We used our own oil. US’s oil import is at record low with oil from mainly Saudi reduced to less than 10%. Canada is the major exporter of the oil to US now. Smart! Because all you need is a pipe and no tanker expenses to ship oil to US. But more than anything he kept Russia and China at bay. We did not cause or instigate major wars or mass destructions. And anyone fucking with Americans they ended up paying big. Ghassem kotlet was one. Anyways, Trump thing is over. Very highly unlikely he will win the nomination anyways. And even if he does it will be tough to do lots of things as the fight of Neocons and Globalists against him will be huge. And will be 4 years of back and forth. If this term was continuation of his first term then it would have been different. Anyways, the problem is that some really think Bidens Newsoms or Pelosid are saints. You know better they are not. As I said 4 years from now the election debate will be environment, healthcare, abortion, gun control or migration. 8 years from now the same. 12 years from now same again. Just like the past 40 years. Those issues have to stay alive so we can have an election process and elect a president (who has other real agendas) One person summarized Trump era very well. “He did all the right things but said all the wrong things”. Anyways. Regardless, foreign policy is the top of the agenda always. As you said if we shift focus to other things we might as well move out of here.
Comments: Shahin, I’m with you. I don’t want America to close the doors and leave the world! They are needed and wanted. What is crazy to me is the fact that we (Americans) believe that the rest of the world need us in every aspect of their lives. American’s unconditional support for Israel is one of the greatest problems in the region. Israel is powerful enough, rich enough and smart enough to deal with their issues. EU doesn’t need us to set up camp there forever. They can deal with their own issues and we can help if needed. Military spending is out of hand and no one wants to be the bad guy and cut the spending. Internally, we have so many problems that I can’t count. Americans are dying from things that are unbelievable. Overdose, gun violence, suicide, …
Comments: It’s almost impossible to compare countries on a short trip. Even when I go to Iran for couple of weeks, it looks perfectly fine to me. I know that is not the reality. My plans are coming together. A place in northern coastal Portugal, one in Iran and one in America. I’m 2/3 there. Going to Porto in few weeks to make it 3 out of 3. Iran for family, friends, culture and specifically food. Portugal for everyday health checks/medication, relaxation and also food. America for any major medical needs (getting old after all) since Boston has some of the best healthcare systems in the world (if you have good insurance)! America is still one of best places to live if you have money (lots of it these days). EU is great for relaxation, cheap medicine/doctors/insurance. Iran is home no matter what.
Comments: I said this before, this America first stuff will lead to protectionist policies and will be disastrous to America and global economy. No question American foreign policy needs to be adjusted to take into account humanitarian issues, environment and global concerns but in no way needs to be overhauled to a protectionist stand. If it did, we would not want to live here any more. Of curse this is my personal opinion
Comments: Farzad: Don't you think Trump said all these things because he knew his constituents wanted to hear them? I think those are exactly the things a populist will say
Comments: Still in a better shape than any other country, if not all. Speaking of falling apart Take a trip to France, Italy, Sweden, and Germany.
Comments: Foreign policy will always be the top agenda. Does not matter what Trump says. Domestic stuff is for election and making average Joe to go to the polls. And then the same subjects 4 years later.
Comments: KAmkAr He was basically saying that Russia has nothing, can’t compete with the rest, all they have is atomic bomb.
Comments: I can agree with what was said but not what was done. I did agree with Trump (God help me) on that. I disagree with everything else. It is hard to agree with someone in just one subject and call it a day. Either way, I do believe USA needs to stop spending time, money and resources to deal with every other country 1000s of miles away while homeland is falling apart...
Comments: Farzad, It's no secret that Russia was and is our historical enemy. China is a new kid on the block and they're going to do with us as Russia has done throughout the history. At least Russia had common border with us. China's appetite is more globally than Russia's.
