Comments: Shahin, are Larry Finks and Georoge Soroses considered powerful, oligarch, corrupt, and powerful? With all the show we are seeing, there is one thing that is so evidant and that is what's making many nervous. He is just as transparent as he can be. He has been in front of press everyday. Already more times than Biden during the whole four years. And he says things that he shouldn't. He said something about Iran and their nuclear build which blew my mind. He is not the kind that promises ceasefire to Palestinians but then sends Blinken to bomb them even more. Ceasfire means ceasefire. January 19th deadline means January 19th, Saturday at noon deadline means Saturday at noon. 25% tariff means 25% tariff.
Comments: Ali P, are you comparing the arrival of the Trump administration to the emergence of Covid in terms of job losses? I can see where you are going with this. Disasters can come around in many forms but have similar effects.
Comments: Jesus Christ. Another plane crash. Something's not right. https://www.cnn.com/world/live-news/delta-plane-crash-toronto-flips-02-17-25/index.html
Comments: Shahin, I too question the approach. But that is what differenciates you and I on how we do things versus how an Elon or Trump do things...They have their own way of doing things and they have been somewhat succesful in what they do. You and I do not have what it takes to even run our own business, yet running the country. Knowing Trump, I understand exactly why he takes what steps and for what reasons. Again I understand but not neccesarily agree with everything. For example you very well understood the importance of Greenland, Canada, and Panama for our national interest, whereas many here are still cluless about it. Your critisizm again was, on his approach. Which I am not that distant from how you feel. But that is his way of doing things. I don't think any American is against finding out where their tax money is going and whether it is being wasted. Bear in mind we are in a completely different situation than we were 4-8 years ago regarding for example: Iran: Iran 5 years was going broke and funding to its proxies were limited. 4 years later, we see Iran having money but at the same time their proxies are essentially dessimated. You take different actions than what you were taking 4-6 years ago. It is checkmate time essentially for Iran. Russia: Russia and Ukraine are in a war and more than a million lives have been lost. Gaza death toll is a fraction of this. 4-8 years ago Russia was not in a war and did not encroach further than what they did in 2014. Now in addition to Crimea the whole eastern part of Ukraine is in the hands of Russia. 4-8 years ago the negotiation would have been about Crimea only, now the whole Eastern Ukraine is in the hands of Russia. So the landscape has changed significantly. The negotiating elements have changed sinificantly. Israel: The talks about two state solution as part of Abraham accord in 4-5 years ago existed and meant something. After October 7th with the destruction of Gaza and with 2 million people living in rubbles it takes a different approach. I also know exactly why Trump recommended what he recommended about Gaza. Am I in favor of it? NO. But has anyone else come up with a solution? NO. Is there a solution out there that does not let what happened in Oct 7th, happen again? So far none. Waiting for Egypt, Jordan, and KSA. But that is the question which will need to be answered, and that is Trump's question. Border: This one you know the story. We had border issues 4-8 years ago, but now we have desparate crisis. And naturally it is dealth with differently. Desparate crisis takes desparate measures. Like 9/11, like Covid.
Comments: Ahmad-DC, sorry to hear about your nieces and nephews. It sounds like they are highly educated and very smart individuals, so hopefully they will move on to better things. Also let's not lose sight of the fact that thousands of people lost their jobs during the pandemic for refusing vaccine mandates, including government employees and military. Not to mention all the small businesses that were lost due to the shutdowns. I remember in 2021 just in one month alone 5000 people were fired. I don't recall any outcry from the left for all the fired blue collar guys that were struggling to support their families. Now of course at the time "covid" and a "deadly" virus was blamed for all that, but now we know better. That is one factor that helped Trump win this time, maybe this USAID thing will make sure a Democrat wins next time.

Comments: Not sure who you are referring to, perhaps Ahmad's post. Some level of government assistance is needed to fund research in areas that are long term and not necessarily money making. Otherwise boob jobs and diet pills will advance more than finding cure to other things. As far as USAid overseas, it helps feed people and keep them alive like when you want to end wars
