Unlike England, Dutch, French or Portuguese, USA does no just conquer and colonize, we normally purchase land. Purchase of Louisiana, Alaska and Guam Puerto Rico and Philippines are just examples of it. The last territory purchased by the United States was the U.S. Virgin Islands, which were acquired from Denmark for $25 million. Comments: KAmkAr as I said 2 things happened. One was the unprecedented wind and gust of 80-90 mph in the coast area. That means 2- the choppers and superscoopers could not fly. There is no way that fire could have been controlled in any way or shape. It happened in a very populated area. It could just have been minimized by doing the necessary prep. The blame on the authorities are mainly because of lack of water and defunding the FD here in a state that fires are the way of life. That is quite embarrassing. The only thing is that with this vast devastation the death toll so far has been minimal. And it mostly happened those who did not heed the evacuation orders. This is very commendable.
